Description
Barrier Canyon Style rock art is characterised by large haunting ghost like forms, some as tall as nine feet. The identifying features are vacant looking or missing eyes, the frequent absence of arms and legs, and the presence of vertical body markings. Maybe it was the 100 degree heat, or just the emotion of seeing such beautiful art that was made thousands of years ago, but I can’t help but compare the images to modern descriptions of aliens or ghosts. Are humans hardwired to see the afterlife or spirituality the same way so many of us do today? Could they just have been smoking the same plants as us or could some of them these people who lived out their days so long ago have seen the same things some of us think they have? How it is all tied together is a mystery to me. I am mostly a person of science, but spending even a short amount of time in amazing places like Sego Canyon makes me wonder if the tapestry of human existence is pure science or something we just can never understand.
