I never did see it coming until it was too late. We were a good 600 feet from the car, I had all my equipment out and was happily shooting the spectacular vistas in Canyonlands National Park when I decided to look behind me. There is was. At first it didn’t register. Grey billows were racing up and over the ridgeline of the canyon. What is that? It only took a second to realise we were about to get wet. The 100 f. degree day was erased in an instant by the 40 degree rain. We did have a small shelter to hide under so we did not get completely soaked. When the rain subsided as the storm moved away, I was not sure there would be a rainbow. I knew the light was right, but I thought the drops of water were way too big. It didn’t last long and wasn’t the brightest rainbow, but it was an amazing sight over the the canyon.
