It was a last minute decision to head down to the shore for dinner last Saturday. We had a casual outdoor dinner at a seafood place in Clinton Connecticut. It was getting late but we decided to ride over to a beach in Old Saybrook. We got there about 8 minutes before the sunset. I quickly spotted the big tree branch lying out in the tidal flats a few hundred yards out. I ran (as fast as this 55 year old guy can run) out to get close enough to get a good capture before the sun set. As I got closer, I saw that the retreating tide had left nice ripple patterns in the sand in front of the tree. I thought to myself that this would make a good story shot. In my mind, story shots have a beginning, middle and end. In this case, I see a story about time and frequency of cycles. The sand is constantly being reshaped by the wind and tide, the tree grew for years where ever it had taken root. The sun has been rising and setting since the dawn of time.
