Description
When I was a 15 year old photographer, all my sunrise and sunset pictures were facing into the sun, horizon centered. As you learn and grow you start to add some composition skills like rule of thirds or leading lines. As time went on, I realized the best way to get a great sunrise image was to turn around a face west. That's exactly what I did here. I was camping on Lake Erie for the first time. I had just picked up our new camper in MI and was on my way back to CT. With my teenage daughter sleeping soundly in the locked camper, I set out. Since I had never been to the park before and arrived after sunset the night before, I knew I would have to scout quickly and shot as best I can. I was greeted with some beautiful sights and sounds that morning. On my way back to camp, I saw the light hitting this cluster of dead trees. I pulled my 20mm Sigma Art lens and quickly attached it to my Sony A7RIII. Even though this was shot a 1/100 second, I pulled out the tripod. No need to risk this shot to camera shake. I quickly framed so the trees and the reflections were in the shot. I really like the symmetry and color in this image. What will always make this shot extra special for me was what I was hearing when I shot it. Some of the most beautiful birds sounds I had ever heard. I had never been to this part of the country before, but I can say I will be back and next time I will spend more time.
